  • Michigan's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Healthy Kids, is a program for pregnant woman, babies and children under 19. Information is available at http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-2939-17752--,00.html or 1-800-642-3195.

  • The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program provides aid - including health insurance assistance - to trade displaced workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced. Health care benefits include a 65% advanceable and refundable tax credit that can be used for health insurance coverage such as COBRA, continuing individual market coverage, or two specific health insurance products from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.   • The Saginaw Health Plan is a community-sponsored healthcare program for Saginaw County residents age 19-64 who have no health insurance and meet income requirements. Although it does not provide hospital or other inpatient services, it covers doctor visits, prescriptions, lab tests and x-rays. You must come into the Saginaw County Department of Public Health (1600 North Michigan Avenue) and complete an application.   • The Tri-Share Program is a separate program administered by Saginaw Health Plan and offered to employers to help Saginaw County small businesses provide basic health insurance to their employees. The program is offered to employers with 2-20 employees who employ workers earning $12 per hour or less and who have not offered health insurance for at least 6 months. The program will pay one-third of the premium, employers must pay one-third of the premium and employees must pay one-third of the premium (about $53 each for an individual). The plan includes physician office visits, prescriptions, lab tests, x-rays and hospitalizations. For more information call 1-877-874-7427.
